I wanted to write a little bit about the Acadamy Awards, a bit of a hot topic since it is the day after. I was a bit surprised about this years awards. Now it's the same ol' story. I thought someone would get an award but actually didn't. Oh well. But I want to point out that
Curse of the Were-Rabbit was a well deserved academy award winner. Absolutley brilliant movie. But also my one dissappointment was the short film catagory. Now mind you, it's hard to see some of these films so I haven't seen
The Son and the Moon:
an Imagined Conversation and I'm sure its great. But I really wanted to see Sean Acker get the award for
9. Also I'm surprised Kong didn't get more nominations. And of course
Brokeback Mountain, It's really too bad that a movie that tackled such an issue that for many americans is "disturbing"(I heard an interview on a local radio show about it and that's what the interviewee had called it) didn't get the award. Of course when it comes to the award its not just about the issue, it's about the whole film itself. It's a great thing though that writers and directors are taking a look at current political/social issues now and voicing opinions through storytelling. It's bringing more of an art/illustrative side to hollywood that was in a bit of a lull I believe. To all you artists, writers, directors. voice those opinions more! I want to see films that make you think!
To all the acadamy award winners out there. Congrats and well done.
